Just the Facts
Reengineering Information Management Systems project requires developing a web-based software system with a backend Geo-database to manage the scheduling, inspections and equipment, work order generation, and repairs throughout the interceptor system. The software application collects interceptor spatial data, TV inspection data, line inspection and cleaning, and flow and analytical data management.
REVISION developed an infrastructure to integrate the client’s database with other legacy databases to maintain the integrity of the data.
As part of this effort the following services were provided:
Strategic Assessment and Business Process Analysis
Interceptor System Geographic Information System
CAD Drawing Management System
Training Management System
The Challenge
Significant change comes with great effort in any industry, including the state and local governments. Although some solutions may seem clear-cut, many small details can become a headache and a roadblock for your business. At REVISION, we identify these details and ensure a smooth ride towards successfully reengineering information management systems.
More specifically, in Reengineering Information Management Systems, it is crucial to proceed with the right plan to restructure the systems while maintaining the effectiveness of day-to-day operations. Consequently, the client requires a strategy and a roadmap to implement the modifications to minimize disruption to the operations.
The Approach and Outcomes
Strategic Assessment and Business Process Analysis
The business process analysis was a major effort that required facilitation among the staff to document the existing processes, identify the people, the technology, the process gaps, and prioritize them. Based on this analysis, the team provided the Project Manager with specific recommendations regarding process improvement opportunities and organizational changes and developed high-level business requirements for an information system. Our team worked closely with the Chief Information System Manager to develop an IT implementation strategy incorporated into the client’s overall financial strategic plan.
Assisted in developing a naming standard for the engineering structures associated with the client’s interceptor system.
Evaluated the impact of the new naming convention on existing relevant information systems and developed a strategy to integrate all appropriate existing information systems that support the operation and maintenance of the interceptor system.
Developed a Geo-database to manage the Interceptor’s spatial data, with Web-based applications to manage TV inspection data, line inspection and cleaning, and flow and analytical data management.
Developed an infrastructure to integrate the database with other legacy databases to maintain the integrity of the data.
Designed an Oracle database for the Interceptor System
Built the web interface
Integrated Data from multiple database sources.
Laboratory Information Management System
REVISION developed specific requirements based on a thorough analysis of the existing processes within the Laboratory. The client used the requirements database to select a commercial off-the-shelf solution for a Laboratory Information Management System. The precision of these requirements allowed the client to secure a turnkey fixed-price contract with a vendor within three months. The management considers this project a best practice for IT solutions implementation.
CAD Drawing Management System
REVISION assisted the client in developing requirements for a CAD drawing management system. REVISION helped define and document the needs. The team assisted in evaluating and selecting the commercial off-the-shelf solution that best meets the requirements and specifications.
Training Management System
REVISION developed requirements for the client’s internal and external training program. REVISION performed a cost-benefit analysis for custom development options versus commercial off-the-shelf software and evaluated associated risks. We also assisted the client in selecting the Training Management System that best meets the requirements given the budget, schedule, and political constraints.
